10.12.08. Perini Green Weekend concluded with great Poker Ride and big party.
With cold send off at 8 am Sunday morning, the inaugural Perini Green Weekend Poker Bike Ride got underway. Even though ride organizer, Chris, emphasized "this is not a race" the pace started fast and rarely slowed down except to pick up the required playing card to see who would finish with the best hand. The ride started and finish at Stoney's with a trip south on the Strip through Southern Highlands before riders made their way through Summerlin, around Red Rock, quick stop in Blue Diamond to pick up the fourth card before heading straight back to Las Vegas Blvd via highway 160 before the sprint finish into Stoney's.
Jeff Strong racing for Team CES made his way across the finish line with a time of 3:18. The rest of Team CES was not far behind due to a misunderstanding of ride start time.
Jeff Strong crosses the finish line first.
Today's "race" was not about first place finishers. Instead it was about gaining support for the Shade Tree charity who is charged with serving homeless and abused women and children, victims of domestic violence, victims of elder abuse, victims of street violence, female veterans, homeless youth and the physically disabled. Using programs offered by The Shade Tree, women can rebuild their lives. They can find employment, secure permanent housing and become productive member of the community.
Not only was there a phenomenal event, there were many prizes that were awarded at the end of the day including several flat screen t.v.'s and portable DVD players.
The largest team in attendance went to the Las Vegas Valley Bicycle Club.
The Las Vegas Valley Bicycle Club was the largest club in attendance at the event.
This was a great event and we look forward to October 9-11 of 2009 for another exciting venue.
